Frequently Asked Questions About Relentless

1.  I haven’t exercised in years.  Can I go to Relentless?

Absolutely!  Our programs are designed for each individual and paced on your progress.  We believe in progressing people when they have demonstrated proficiency in a certain exercise or program, NOT when the clock or calendar says to.  Since we individualize everyone’s training program, we can work with people who haven’t been in a gym in years (or never) as well as highly-competitive athletes.

2.  I’m scared.

That’s perfectly normal.  If you haven’t been in a gym in a while (or never), then it can be intimidating to walk into a place like this, especially when everyone else seems like they know what they’re doing.  Then you throw in our red-eyed bull logo, brick walls, and some cannonballs with handles (we call them kettlebells) and it can get easy to be intimidating.

Here’s the deal.  We do some hard work here, I’m not going to lie to you.  However, if we were going to do nothing but be snobbish, kick the crap out of you, and walk around like we’re better than you, then we wouldn’t have a very good community and that wouldn’t be fun.  Makes sense, right?

See, we seek to have a good time with good people while we’re doing some good hard work, because that makes it easier and more effective.  If you’re enjoying yourself, you’re going to do better and be better, and that’s the name of the game.  To make that easier, in addition to our welcoming community, we’ve built a well-tested and structured program to meet someone where they’re at (beginner to very advanced) and take them where they want to go.

When you train with us you’ll always be training with a coach guiding you, as well as support from others who are working on their goals right beside you.

3.  Do I have to lift weights?

It is our belief that strength training is going to be among the most valuable tools we use to build a stronger, healthier body.  A good strength training program will:

-Build lean muscle
-Help shed body fat
-Increase your metabolism
-Improve your flexibility and mobility
-Give you a strong, lean, and “toned” appearance
-Improve your strength, speed, and athletic performance
-Increase bone density
-Help strengthen tendons and ligaments to reduce injury potential

How you go about that strength training, though, can vary quite heavily.  Depending on their goals, many of our clients don’t spend much time under heavy weights.  They instead focus on developing skill with their bodyweight, odd objects like sandbags, and utilize our kettlebell training more.  I’d be happy to talk more about what type of training would be the best for you in a Strategy Session.  Here’s where you can schedule one!

4.  Will this fit in my schedule?

We have a broad range of schedule options, including early and mid-morning, and afternoon/evening sessions.  If our schedule doesn’t work for you, then we do have our Hybrid and Distance Training Programs.  This will give you a great deal of the Relentless Experience, including our programming, coaching, and online community without you having to be here at Relentless or on our schedule.

5.  I’m hurt.  I have an injury to my shoulder, back, knees, etc.  Can I train without further injury?

First of all, I’m sorry that you have suffered an injury!  That’s a very frustrating experience, and it can make it very difficult and/or scary to get back into fitness.

This is our bread and butter, because we individualize all of our training for YOU and YOUR needs.  Since we build the program specifically for you it is well within our wheelhouse to work around and with an injury and help you keep working on your fitness while you work with your rehabilitation program, probably prescribed by your doctor or Physical Therapist.

6.  I need to lose more than 100 lbs.  Can you guys help me?

Needing to lose 100 lbs is a big goal and accomplishing it is going to be a huge accomplishment when you make it happen.

However, let’s keep it real:  It can seem like a very daunting task when it’s looked at in one big piece.

We work with you on setting smaller, more easily-attainable goals to head in that direction.  It allows you to keep your enthusiasm, get faster results, course-correct more quickly if need be, and just plain get more wins.

When you get more wins, you’ll have more success.  That’s the Relentless Way.

7.  Do I have to change what I eat?

Lots of places will give you a “diet” and put you on it.

Let’s be honest:  Most of the time, if we put someone on a “diet”, they’ll follow it for like a week.  Then something will come up, they’ll slip, or it just plain suck.

That’s not a win.

Instead we work with you on where YOU are with your nutrition and moving in directions that are more in line with your goals.

We’ll work with you on one or two simple habits at a time, focusing on habits that you are most comfortable working on, and keep you accountable.

We focus on building healthy, balanced relationships with food that is going to support your goals while still giving you the freedom to eat the foods you like and are comfortable with.

8.  How hard is the program?

I’m not going to lie to you.

We are going to challenge you.  If you want to go beyond where you are now, you’ll have to go beyond your everyday comfort zone.

However, it doesn’t do you or us any good to just crush you with a program that you can’t do.  The point of a training program is to make your life better, not to have you so beaten up that you can’t enjoy the things you trained for in the first place.  Since we build our programs for each member, we can increase or decrease the challenge as need be to provide the optimal amount of challenge for you to grow a little bit every day without being so smashed.

9.  How much is it?

Our training programs are very coaching intensive, both in and outside of the gym.  As a result, they are at a higher price-point than those places that either leave you to your own devices or simply put up one workout for everyone.

Our value comes in the individualized coaching, planning, and being with you every step of the way of your journey.

Our monthly membership varies depending on your level, but tends to be in the $125-250/month range, which is a great value compared to regular personal training.

10.  Where are you located?

We’re at 2 South St, in Bangor, ME.  You can see a map at the bottom of the home page.  The easiest way to describe our location is in the same building as FirstLight Networks and if I open the front door I’m staring right at the Waterfront Concerts’ stage.

11.  How many people per class?

We train our athletes in groups of 4-6 per coach, with everyone on their own, individualized program.  This small ratio of athletes to coaches allows us to more effectively coach you while still keeping up the fun, energy, and camaraderie of a group of people all working hard towards their goals.

12.  Is everyone in super-great shape?

We have a wide variety of people at Relentless, which is one of the things that makes it really fun.  Since we individualize all of our training programs for your goals, it really doesn’t matter where you start… we’ll get you to the finish.

We’ve had sessions with everyone from college football players to Olympic hopefuls to 80 year-old great-grandparents to 40 year-old moms building a legacy of health.  Now THAT is a variety!

Come in as you are and we’ll be happy to build a program based on your current abilities and build from there!  Here is what some of our members who have started from all different levels of fitness have to say about beginning at different fitness levels.
